Some thoughts on using custom code in PI Sheets
In this session I had only one participant so I decided not to bother recording. In the end it was a nice discussion on the ongoing project in his company. Since the discussion covered a good deal of internal politics I won’t disclose any names here. But I would like to make a general remark on this.
Many companies – especially in a regulated environment – are very strict on creating a lot of custom coding. Of course it all adds up to the load of validation (specifications, testing,…). However in the case of PI Sheets this can lead to a lot of restrictions and complex workarounds. If you build the right function modules in a clever way you can make PI Sheets very powerful. Also the symbols and generation scopes in XSteps which require BAdI implementations add a lot of flexibility. The PI Sheet and XStep technology is really meant to be used together with some own coding. Of course you need to find a reasonable mix between using only standard and custom code.
So, hopefully we have some more participants next time 🙂
