Feasibility Study: XSteps for Reference Operation Sets and Maintenance Orders
Link to original flash recording
Last time on September 12th there was no one coming online and therefore there is no recording available. Uwe had prepared something interesting on custom development enhancements which would enable XSteps also for Reference Operation Sets and Maintenance orders. I will put this topic now explicitly on the agenda for the next session and hope that we get some live guests. However I wonder whether there is still the demand for these online sessions. Maybe a simple recording every now and then with no online guests would be the better model? I created a new poll here and also put it on the side panel. Please tell me what you think. Also comments to this post are welcome!
Presentation off some content in SCN (SAP Community Network, formerly SDN) and a very detailed insight into XStep coding

In the first part of the session Uwe showed some of his work on PCo 2.2 integration into Business Suite on the SCN. Here is the list of documents with the links:
Some thoughts on using custom code in PI SheetsIn this session I had only one participant so I decided not to bother recording. In the end it was a nice discussion on the ongoing project in his company. Since the discussion covered a good deal of internal politics I won’t disclose any names here. But I would like to make a general remark on this. Many companies – especially in a regulated environment – are very strict on creating a lot of custom coding. Of course it all adds up to the load of validation (specifications, testing,…). However in the case of PI Sheets this can lead to a lot of restrictions and complex workarounds. If you build the right function modules in a clever way you can make PI Sheets very powerful. Also the symbols and generation scopes in XSteps which require BAdI implementations add a lot of flexibility. The PI Sheet and XStep technology is really meant to be used together with some own coding. Of course you need to find a reasonable mix between using only standard and custom code. So, hopefully we have some more participants next time 🙂
Demo of SAP Plant Connectivity 2.2: Replacement of SAP ODA and integration to SAP Business Suite
Uwe and I presented some demos of the new Plant Connectivity Release 2.2. Especially the second half was pretty technical with a lot of coding. There were almost no questions at the end but if you have any more questions on this we might do a follow up session next time. Link to original flash recording
Since yesterday SAP Plant Connectivity 2.2 is finally generally available! I have attached a presentation on the new features. Here are the main new features:
Technical insight into Xstep change records and where-used list functionality

I have added a new functionality to my blog to make it easier to discuss multiple topics. So far you only could discuss questions in the area “Topic Discussion”. With the new forum you can add new topics and find those topics easier in an overview. To read topics in the forum you do not need to be logged on. If you want to create topics or reply to topics you need a registered user. This user is the same as for the blog so you might already have one. If you want to register please press here. Te enter the forum in a new window please press here.
As you know I have moved to a different area in the SAP organization. Nevertheless I want to keep this blog interesting for the XSteps and PI Sheet community. Therefore I ask all of you whether you would be willing to contribute articles to this blog. If you are interested please send me a mail to arne.manthey@sap.com. I will then promote your user to a Contributor role which would allow you to create your own posts. Any new post from a contributor will go through a review process by myself though.

Presentation on SAP Plant Connectivity 2.1 This is the presentation I showed you in Session 25. Please note that the new version 2.2 is currently in ramp-up with some exciting new stuff in it. However since this is a private blog I am not allowed to disclose this in public before the end of ramp-up. However you can contact your SAP sales agent or partner manager and ask for details.

On one of my past posts last year I asked whether the iPad would be suited for working on a PI Sheet. Some of you did some tests by trying to access a PI Sheet via WebGUI and the mobile Safari browser. Since the PI Sheet is highly optimized for the Microsoft Internet Explorer this is not a good approach. Recently I received an iPad and I also noticed that our IT department offered support for using a Citrix client on that device. That immediately brought me to the idea to try out how to work in a PI Sheet in that environment. Here is my report..
